Frequently Asked Questions About Atlanta Landscaping

Q: I want a low maintenance landscape. Can you help me with that?
A: All landscapes require some maintenance. Plants must be watered, mulches must be replenished and most shrubs need to be hedged at least once a year to keep them shaped and flush out new growth and buds for blooming season. Pre-emergence for weed control is necessary in all landscapes, including sodded areas. Trees, shrubs and sod must also be protected from insect infestations and fertilized for growth, so even a yard with no grass is going to require some attention, whether from the owner or a good maintenance company and chemical company.

We recommend TurfPride www.turfpride.com for all chemical applications for sod and plant material. Finding a maintenance crew can be tricky - look to your neighbors for assistance in finding a local company that does good work. Find the best kept yard in the neighborhood and just ask!
Q: I want a custom project, something unique, how can you do that?
A: All of our projects are custom, but our designers are happiest when the homeowner wants something unique! Just how unique the project is will depend upon the terrain, the amount of space we have to work within, and the budget.
Q: What makes you different from other landscaping companies?
A: At Angel Landscape Designs, we look at the overall picture and come up with a design that will not only look good when it is completed, but will address proper water flow and allow the plant material to grow properly into maturity without crowding. Good landscape design starts with proper grade for water management. Without proper grade, a landscape design, no matter how pretty, is destined to fail when the rainy season starts. This is the number one step for a design from Angel Landscape Designs. Secondly, the landscape and hardscapes should always work with the architecture of the home. Choosing the right colors and types of stone, brick and/or pavers for hardscape projects is crucial for making the project look like part of the house instead of an afterthought.

Moreover, we put in the time needed to understand your unique needs; then we put a great deal of thought into the design and in the detail of your estimate. We deliver high quality workmanship on every project, with a final inspection by Steve (every time and, man, is he picky!). We are 100% committed to customer service before, during and after the project. We also clearly outline our terms and our warranties prior to starting your project and we go to great lengths to meet and exceed all of your expectations.
Q: OK, I keep hearing "hardscapes", "softscapes" and "landscapes". What is the difference, and which ones do you do?
A: The terms do get confusing if you don't work in the business. "Hardscapes" is the term used for outdoor projects involving solid surface materials such as stone, brick, masonry, timber and paver materials, including outdoor fireplaces and waterfalls. "Softscapes" are those projects involving plants, shrubs, trees, flowers and sod. Landscaping is the term that covers all of the work done in the yard, and is often even used to refer to landscape maintenance. We provide everything up to the maintenance end of the business, which, to date, we have chosen not to venture into.
Q: Do you have a guarantee on your plant material?
A: We offer a one year limited warranty on plant material where we have installed an irrigation system, or have tested the existing system and set the watering times. We do not warranty for insect or fungus damage, winter freeze damage (Winter Kill) and are not responsible where watering restrictions are imposed by local government. Most plants will not survive the first year without proper irrigation. Once plants are properly rooted, they stand a much better chance of surviving shifts in the rain patterns. Planting in the fall and winter allows the root systems to get better established.
Q: What other warranties do you offer?
A: All manufacturers' warranties for pavers, lighting and irrigation are passed through to our customers. We offer a five year warranty on all irrigation installations. We cannot warranty damage caused by autos or machinery driving over irrigation heads or pipes, but we will repair them at a very reasonable rate. It is very important to drain and winterize the pumps we install for customers in waterways and lakes for the purpose of irrigation. We cannot warranty against damage done by freezing, and repairs can be costly.
Q: What kind of irrigation systems do you install?
A: We use only professional, commercial grade materials from Rainbird for our irrigation systems. We warranty the systems for five years, which means we cannot rely upon consumer products purchased from Lowes or Home Depot!
Q: I have big ideas for my yard, but my budget isn't so big… can you help?
A: We have many customers who have large projects that we are doing in phases. We start with the foundational work, addressing the most important or relevant items first. We then move on to the other projects as the budget for them becomes available, chipping away at the overall original plan and making the landscape more beautiful with each project. We want to be the landscaping contractor that you turn to for many years to come. We are in no rush to do it all at once. Let us work with you to outline a plan, budget and timeframe that fit YOUR needs!
Q: My yard is pretty small. Is there anything that can be done in a small space?
A: Small yards can be transformed with curves and different levels to add depth and interest. We use smaller hybrid plants that don't grow into giants, and place them strategically to create shade and ambience in your yard. Outdoor lighting, patios and even water features can be incorporated into small spaces as well.
Q: Do you offer a senior citizens discount?
A: We work carefully with each customer to achieve their budget goals. Many companies will artificially inflate the price in order to offer a "Senior Discount" or a "Special Savings Coupon". Others will cut corners to save whatever money "savings" they have passed on to their customer. We have seen contractors low-ball projects and either leave the project in the middle because they are losing money, or start hitting the customer with change orders in the middle of the project because they are losing money.

We price our jobs competitively, working closely with the homeowner, and then complete all work professionally and completely to plan. We find this method works best for all of our customers, including our seniors. No surprises on either end.
Q: How long does a landscape design take to be completed?
A: Many factors must be taken in account - a project can take as little as one day or up to 2-3 months, depending upon the scope of work to be completed and the weather. Rain can often delay projects for several days, even after the rain has stopped if we are doing grading because the ground has to dry enough for us to work with a heavy machine.
